The software listed here is a combination that does just about everything. You can record MP3's (or .WAV) from your CD's, from cassettes, or even from those old LP's and 8-Tracks. Then, if you have a CD Burner you can record the MP3's onto CD-R disks in either MP3 format or as Audio Tracks.

We use Audiograbber to record from those old cassettes and other sources in .WAV format. Then we use GoldWave to clean them up. We "normalize" the .WAV files and convert them to MP3 using Audiograbber. We like to test the results with WinAmp. Finally, we burn (record) them to CD-R using MP3 to CD Burner We even tried this method with an ancient 78 RPM record (made in the 1950's by a local radio station). The result we achieved astounded us, it is better than the old original!

Mixing, slicing, dicing and BURNING...all in one convenient application. Get rid of applause, extra silence, and fade songs 'DJ style' exactly the way you want!

Many songs have extra silence, applause or advertisements. Get rid of them conveniently directly in the software by selecting the sound and then clicking the 'Mixing' button. Simply adjust the "Trim Start" or "Trim End" for the sound and click "OK"!

This software is outstanding for burning to CD-R. We especially like the ability to fade between tracks and to eliminate the 2 second silence between tracks. MP3 CD Burner will burn to 74 or 80 minute CD-Rs and supports most CD-R hardware.

Audiograbber

We think Audiograbber is a beautiful piece of software that grabs digital audio from cd's. It copies the audio digitally-not through the soundcard-which enables you to make perfect copies of the originals. It can even perform a test to see that the copies really are perfect. Audiograbber can also automatically normalize the music and delete silence from the start and/or end of tracks. Audiograbber is the best software we have ever found for "recording" from cassette or vinyl. The "Track Split" feature really works! We can start the cassette or vinyl and let it run with confidence that Audiograbber will split the cassette or vinyl tracks into individual files.
Good news! Effective 02-09-04 Audiograbber is freeware!

GoldWave

Trial version of a terrific sound editor. Record in .WAV format from any available source. Built in filters. Built in equalizer. Other features: Change volume, add echo and reverb, edit just one channel, and lots more. If you use this carefully you can remove almost all the annoying clicks, pops and other noise from those "oldies."

This software does a good job at most functions. MMJB is outstanding for burning to CD-R.

    WinAmp

This one runs a close second to MMJB for playing MP3's. We especially like the compact size. WinAmp lacks some of the added features of MMJB, like the Library, but it's small RAM usage might make it the best choice. This is the definite choice if you want to play MP3's while you work on other projects.
