What to do if the hard drive is your only drive:

What to do if you have more than one hard drive:
If the inoperative drive is your system drive follow the steps above for a single drive.
If the drive is not your system drive:
Physically remove the drive.

Start. Click Control Panel. Click System Click Device Manager Click Disk Drives Select the inoperative drive and double click. Disable the drive.
